Born in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1975, Derek Kaplan is a self-taught, abstract artist now living and working in New York City. As a young boy growing up in Southern Africa, Derek was inspired by the colors and the natural beauty of the tropical grasslands that make up the African savanna. Rainfall was infrequent during the long dry season, but when it came, the clouds and storms that accompanied it inspired Derek's earliest paintings. Throughout his school years, Derek excelled at art and gained recognition by his teachers. Okay... I just saw where it said the medium, my apologizes. I am a photographer who is just stepping into the actual "art" field. My teacher would like me to take the plunge and try oils. I am still at the charcoal drawing stage. I feel that perhaps oil is a bit too much of a commitment for me at this time. Perhaps, watercolours or acrylics! I would say that this image definitely has me leaning towards acrylics. I have shared your photo on my FB page. Hope to see more of your work!

Love the primary colors! I do not see what medium this was painted in. My assumption would be oil. Regardless a very powerful piece.
